What Should I Wear to my Fishing Trip?
December 23, 2022

Fishing is one of America’s favorite pastimes and is a great outdoor activity alone or with family or a group of friends. The smell of fresh air, the sound of water, and the excitement of a catch. What’s there not to love? When fishing it is important to always be prepared, with the right rods, reels, and lures. However, what many people often forget or don’t place enough importance on is your fishing apparel!

We’re here to fix that. Let us guide you in all the essential fishing apparel, so you can not only catch the biggest fish but also look cool and stylish while doing it!

Comfort above all

Every skilled fisherman knows that when putting on the perfect fishing outfit, comfort comes above all. You need clothes that will allow you to move freely, especially your upper body as you throw and reel in your line. No matter how cool or chic an outfit looks, if it limits your body’s movement we recommend you choose a different outfit.

Sun protection

Yes, sunscreen exists, but it is best to also wear clothing that will provide you additional protection from the sun’s strong rays. The first essential here is a nice cap or bucket hat. Some bucket hats even come with an attachable fabric to cover the back of your neck, preventing painful sunburns and blisters.

Waterproof Smock

When purchasing a waterproof smock, one thing you should make sure to check is if it is made from silent material. Fish are very sensitive and will be cautious if you are causing too much noise or movement, so this silent material will give you the upper hand in your fishing endeavors. You should also find a smock that is very lightweight and breathable as it will be more comfortable and allow for flexible movement. Wearing a waterproof smock will be the best and most practical solution to keep you warm and dry during your fishing trip.

Layer, layer, layer!

Just like most other outdoor activities such as hiking or camping, it is equally as important to layer when fishing. It is recommended that you wear 3 layers, a base layer, a middle layer, and an outer layer. A base layer can be polyester shirts and bottoms, and these are suitable to be worn year round. For your middle layer opt for a thin fleece, or even a comfortable well fitted hoodie. Lastly, for your outer layer you can wear a waterproof jacket or waterproof smock as mentioned above.

Fishing Gloves

This is easily the most convenient piece to add to your fishing outfit. Many beginners underestimate how important it is to have the right pair of gloves. They will help you fish effectively and avoid the cold, the sun, and line cuts.
