There are so many factors to keep in mind when dressing for an outdoor adventure. Although functionality is usually most hiker’s top priority, finding the right outdoor clothes that show off your personal style and fashion is also equally as important.
Read on if you want to know the essentials to a perfect hiking outfit, and how you can personalize it to your style! If you are a seasoned outdoorsman you will probably already have a go-to outfit, but use this opportunity to make sure you have everything you need and see if there are any ways to spruce up your clothes.
Layers
The key to wearing the right hiking outfit is in the art of layering. You don’t want to wear any big pieces that are too bulky as this will limit your ability to move freely, and may even cause you injuries. Instead of trying to wear large heavy layers, opt for thin and functional pieces. Here is what we recommend:
- Base Layer: Base layers are also called thermals, and are necessary for outdoorsmen even in the summer! They wick away your sweat and will provide you with great insulation. They are great because they will regulate your body temperature. Another bonus, is that they are stretchy and will allow you to easily move and remain flexible during your hike.
- Second Layer: This layer’s purpose is to keep you warm. Some options are thin fleece jackets or insulated jackets. Remember once again that it is critical to wear multiple thin layers, not thick bulky layers, so make sure to choose a fleece jacket that is thin and comfortable.
Outer Layer: Waterproof Jackets
Even if you have double checked the weather forecast, when out in the wilderness you can never be too certain. A waterproof jacket is a must have piece because it will keep you warm, dry, and safe from nature. It’s hard to really enjoy the outdoors if you are cold, wet, and unprepared. A waterproof jacket is the perfect solution to all that, it allows you to maximize enjoyment and will allow you to truly appreciate your hike.
You can find these in a variety of sizes, colors, and styles. Some come with hoods attached to provide extra protection for your head if needed. In addition, most will have multiple pockets so you can make the most of your storage space.
Hiking Socks
Considering you will be walking in the wilderness for quite a long period of time it is important not only to have the right pair of hiking shoes but also the right hiking socks. A good idea is to even double layer your socks. This will give you additional cushioning and comfort, and help you avoid any blisters during your adventure.
